Japanese Story Telling on World Book Day
On World Book Day, Reception and year 1 were extremely lucky to participate in a story telling session with Tamsin Rosewell from Kenilworth Books. These sessions were hugely dynamic and engaging and were thoroughly enjoyed by all of the students.
The reception children explored “The Magic Paintbrush” by Julia Donaldson. This is a beautifully illustrated version of a traditional Japanese tale. 1S, 1P and 1/2M looked at “The Great Wave” which was inspired by Hokusai’s classic woodcut image which the children looked at last year.
In addition to exploring these wonderful books, Tamsin also brought in various Japanese artefacts and instruments including a traditional furisode wedding gown, chiyogami paper, a set of 5 fan drums and a beautiful rain drum. These items, as well as copies of the books, are now on display in the library and will remain there over the coming week. Parents, children and teachers are all invited to come and enjoy the display and the range of books. The books are all available to order from Kenilworth Books should you wish to continue to explore these themes with your child at home.
