Congratulations to our amazing Athletics team who competed in the Coventry West Final on Wednesday 5th February and came 2nd. It was a fantastic event as part of the School Games competitions. It allowed the children the opportunity to perfect their running, jumping and throwing skills at a highly competitive event. They have been practising every week at Athletics club.
Well done to Whitmore Park who took the win, but we certainly didn't make it easy for them. Our girls Ella and Trinity sprinted fast taking our first win and finishing with a fantastic lead in the 2x2 relay. Our boys had a tough start, but Jacob and Dylan claimed a 2nd place in their 2x2 relay. We took 2nd place on the girls 6 lap paarlaff and put the teams under pressure on the over and under relay, with some excellent agility and speed going under the bridge by Sophie and Nate, another 1st in the bag.
We finished the competition on a high, winning the 4x1 relay in both the girls and boys races. Charlie and Hira threw the javelin the furthest I have ever seen them do and as we waited for the result, we knew it would be close as we were unsure how we did in the field events. There were lots of examples of superb individual effort and success, but it is important to say how each child had brought their own strengths to the team on the track and in the field events and also through team spirit and organisation. When the final result came through - 180 points to Whitmore Park and 164 points to us - we were proud to be the 2nd best in Coventry West! Thank you to all the children for their commitment and determination and especially their outstanding sportsmanship,
Mrs Matthews (PE Leader).
